BUCKHANNON, W. Va. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team improved to 6-1 on the season with a 1-0 win at West Virginia Wesleyan Monday in non-conference action.
The Rock was dominant in the game, holding the hosts to just one total shot over 90 minutes and posting advantages of 8-1 in total shots, 6-1 in shots on goal and 1-0 in corner kicks.
The game-winning goal came from Slippery Rock's leading scorer,
Lucy Hannon, who found the back of the net at the 43:00 mark with her fourth goal of the season to account for the lone score of the game.
Dana O'Neill earned the win and her fifth shutout in goal for SRU, recording one save. Lauren Duncan took the loss, allowing one goal and recording five saves.
West Virginia Wesleyan (4-3-2) got its lone shot of the game from Jade Smith in the 83rd minute.
Hannon and
Caitlin Binder led the offensive attack for The Rock with three shots on target apiece.
Slippery Rock returns to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action this weekend with back-to-back home games against California and Shippensburg. The California game is set for 3:30 p.m. Friday, with the Shippensburg game set for 1 p.m. Saturday.
