SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team scored two second half goals en route to defeating Indiana University (Pa.) 2-0 Wednesday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action from James Egli Field.
With the win, Slippery Rock improves to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in PSAC play. Indiana drops to 3-3-2 overall and 0-3-1 in league games.
Wednesday's game was fairly even through the opening 45 minutes, with neither team generating any great scoring chances. Slippery Rock posted an 8-6 edge in total shots and had the only shot on goal in the first half.
Things changed dramatically at the beginning of the second half when SRU scored two goals three minutes apart, the first coming in the 50th minute and the second in the 53rd.
Kara Mullins notched the opening goal when she took her own rebound and beat IUP keeper Mara Hricik to the upper left corner to make it 1-0. Three minutes later, Mullins found
Shelby Ward streaking down the right wing and Ward flicked it in near post to make it 2-0.
Slippery Rock finished the game with advantages of 14-11 in total shots and 3-2 in shots on goal. Both teams were awarded with three corner kicks.
Dana O'Neill earned the shutout in goal for The Rock after recording two saves. Hricik took the loss, allowing two goals and recording one save.
Slippery Rock will continue PSAC play Saturday when it travels to Clarion for a 1 p.m. match.
