SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University softball team had its five-game winning streak snapped Friday afternoon when Mercyhurst downed The Rock 4-0 and 7-2 to earn a sweep in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action.
Slippery Rock's record falls to 13-14 overall 2-8 in the PSAC-West. Mercyhurst improved to 23-20 overall and 6-6 in the conference.
Junior third baseman
Jenna Geibel and sophomore first baseman
Breanna Tongel led SRU Friday. Both players totaled two hits and one RBI, respectively, with Geibel also hitting a home run.
The Rock had chances to score early in their 4-0 loss to begin the day; they had runners on first and second with one out in the first as well as loading the bases in the third inning. However, Mercyhurst was able to get out of each jam to hold Slippery Rock scoreless.
Meanwhile, the Lakers were able to plate one run in the first, two in the third and one in the fourth to take a commanding 4-0 lead. Laker pitcher Annie Truelove did not allow a Rock hit after the fourth inning. Freshman outfielder

Emily Lobdell did lead the seventh inning off with consecutive walks, but were left stranded after Truelove retired the next three batters.
Senior pitcher
Shaylee Ianno fell to 8-7 on the season with loss after surrendering four runs and five hits while striking out two batters in seven innings pitched.
SRU got off to a 2-1 lead over Mercyhurst in game two thanks to Geibel's seventh home run of the season in the third inning and an RBI double from Tongel in the fourth inning. Slippery Rock kept its lead until the sixth inning when the Lakers exploded for six runs with Megan Smith's two-run double highlighting the inning.
The 7-2 lead was too much to overcome for Slippery Rock to overcome late in the game, Mercyhurst pitcher Megan Hopton allowed three hits in the final two innings but kept The Rock from scoring any more runs to ensure the victory.
Freshman pitcher
Ashley Knight took the loss for The Rock in game two, giving up five runs on five hits in 5.1 innings.
Slippery Rock will look to return to its winning ways Saturday at Edinboro.
