SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University softball team extended its winning streak to five games Thursday by taking two games from Point Park University. SRU hit a total of four home runs on its way to 3-2 and 9-6 victories.

The wins improve The Rock's record to 13-12 overall. Point Park dropped to 17-15 on the season after the losses.

Leading Slippery Rock to its 3-2 victory over the Pioneers in game one was sophomore designated player Kristin Kaminski and freshman outfielder Alaynna Beers. Kaminski hit the first home run of her young career while Beers went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Slippery Rock found itself trailing Point Park, 1-0, heading into the bottom of the third inning when Kaminski led off the frame with solo shot to tie the contest at 1-1. The Rock took the lead in the fourth inning when Beers drove in sophomore first baseman Breanna Tongel and senior short stop Kirsten Brant with a two-RBI single to give SRU a 3-1 edge.

Senior pitcher Shaylee Ianno (8-6) surrendered Point Park's second run of the game in the fifth inning, but was able to regroup and keep the Pioneers from tying the game to seal SRU's 3-2 win. For the game, Ianno struck out seven batters while giving up just two runs on nine hits. The complete game was Ianno's 13th of the season, which is a personal career-high.

While game one of the doubleheader was a low-scoring affair, game two proved to be nothing of the sort as both teams combined for 15 runs and 25 hits.

Junior catcher Katie Saluga belted two home runs and drove in five runs to pace The Rock. Brant hit her 22nd-career home run to move into a tie with teammate Jenna Geibel, who was 3-for-4 in game two, for fourth on The Rock's career home run list. Beers and senior outfielder Natalie Atkinson also both registered multi-hit games in the nightcap with Atkinson posting two RBI.

Slippery Rock seemed poised to run away with game two after scoring six runs in the first two innings, highlighted by Saluga's two home runs and Brant's one. But the Pioneers had other plans and began chipping away at SRU's six-run lead by scoring three runs in the fourth and three more in the sixth before knocking out SRU starter Ashley Knight from the game.

However, The Rock's offense, which had been held scoreless by Point Park relief pitcher Ashlie Khun for three straight innings, got it stride back just in time to score three runs and retake the lead. SRU's rally began with two outs in the sixth inning when Beers, sophomore outfielder Emily Lobdell and Saluga hit consecutive singles with Saluga's hit scoring Beers. Atkinson then came up and proceeded to hit a well-placed ball to right field that allowed Lobdell and Saluga to score and put SRU up 9-6.

Junior pitcher Amy Erickson (1-1, 1 save), who had came on in relief of Knight at the end of the sixth inning, shut down Point Park's batters with relative ease in the seventh inning to earn the first victory of her career and preserve The Rock's triumph.

Slippery Rock returns to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division competition at 3 p.m. Friday vs. Mercyhurst. SRU will also be honoring its seven seniors prior to the game.
