SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University softball team earned a split vs. Gannon Saturday at the Slippery Rock Softball field thanks to three combined home runs from junior third baseman Jenna Geibel and senior outfielder Natalie Atkinson. SRU won game one, 5-3, before losing game two, 5-1.

Slippery Rock's record now stands at 8-9 overall and 1-3 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division. After the split, Gannon has an overall record of 18-9 and a PSAC-West mark of 4-2.

Geibel was perfect on the day, going a combined 4-for-4 from the plate with two runs scored, two home runs, three RBI while drawing three walks. In her last four games, Geibel is 8-for-11 with five RBI. Geibel's two home runs were the 21st and 22nd of her career, moving her past Meghan McHenry (2006-08, 21 HR) for third place for home runs in a Rock career.

Also helping The Rock's efforts vs. Gannon was junior catcher Katie Saluga, who extended her team-leading hitting streak to nine games by finishing the day 4-for-7 with one run and one RBI. Saluga was hitting just .226 entering the weekend, but will leave it with a .306 average.

Slippery Rock wasted little time in game one as Geibel quickly bombed her first home run of the day in the first inning which scored Saluga, who led the inning off with a walk, to give SRU an early 2-0 lead over Gannon.

After Gannon pulled to within one run (2-1) of SRU in the fourth inning, The Rock responded with back-to-back home runs from Atkinson and Geibel in the fifth to give the Green and White a comfortable 4-1 lead. SRU added another run in the sixth when Saluga drove in sophomore outfielder Emily Lobdell, who was 1-for-3 in the game.

The 5-1 lead was more than enough for senior pitcher Shaylee Ianno. Despite allowing two runs in the seventh inning, Ianno was able to close out the Golden Knights for the complete-game victory. Ianno improved to 6-3 with the game-one win.

However, Slippery Rock was unable to complete the sweep over Gannon thanks to a fast start by the visitors in game two that saw them post two runs in the first inning on the way to a 5-1 triumph.

Slippery Rock scored its lone run of the game in the third inning thanks to sophomore first baseman Breanna Tongel driving in Lobdell. The Rock had chances in both the sixth and the seventh innings; they left a combined five runners on base in the two frames, but could never score on Gannon's Jess Rectenwald, who threw three spotless innings in relief to earn the save for starter Erica Bartholow (8-3).

Ianno also threw a complete game in the day's nightcap, falling to 6-4 on the season after giving up five runs (four earned) and striking out three batters.

Slippery Rock continues PSAC-West competition Tuesday with a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader at Mercyhurst.
