EDINBORO, Pa. – The second-ranked and undefeated Edinboro University women's basketball team kept its perfect record intact with a 62-39 win over Slippery Rock University Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division action.

Slippery Rock (5-17, 2-16 PSAC) could not capitalize on an uncharacteristically poor shooting performance or 25 turnovers from Edinboro (22-0, 18-0 PSAC) as the hosts used a tough defensive effort to keep their perfect season alive.

The Lady Scots held The Rock to just 13 made field goals in the game and a 27.1 percent shooting efficiency (13-of-48). SRU took just nine attempts from beyond the 3-point arc, hitting three for a 33.3 percent mark, and was 10-of-20 at the free throw line.

Edinboro earned its advantages on the glass, posting a 49-32 advantage in total rebounds. The hosts forced 29 turnovers to offset 25 turnovers of their own. Edinboro shot just 38.7 percent from the field, connecting on 24-of-62 attempts, including 3-of-5 from long range (60 percent) and was 11-of-15 at the free throw line (73.3 percent).

Danielle Smith led Slippery Rock as the lone player in double figures, posting 12 points and grabbing six rebounds. Sherita Stanley added eight points, while D'Asia Chambers and Jasmine Cooper each chipped in five points to cap the top scorers.

Edinboro was led by Samantha Blazetic with a game-high double-double of 19 points and 14 rebounds. Renee' Brown added 13 points and seven rebounds for the Scots.

Saturday's game opened with a 6-0 run from the hosts and Edinboro opened up a 10-2 lead just over four minutes into the game. The Lady Scots pushed the advantage out to 18-6 with 12:42 left in the first period and would lead by a double-digit margin the rest of the way.

Edinboro closed the first half on a 14-5 run to take a 42-21 lead into the break and Slippery Rock would get no closer than 19 in the second period.

The Rock will return home in hopes of snapping their current eight game losing streak when they host California (Pa.) Wednesday for the annual “Hooping for a Cure” game. Tip is set for 6 p.m. at Morrow Field House and all fans wearing pink will be admitted free.
