CLARION, Pa. – Hosting Clarion University led buzzer to buzzer Saturday afternoon en route to a 75-53 win over Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division women's basketball action in Tippin Gymnasium.

The Golden Eagles, who ended a three-game losing skid and won for the third time in seven games this winter and first time in three PSAC games, scored the first six points of the game. The hosts held a 16-point, 46-30, advantage at the intermission and led by as many as 26 points in the final 20 minutes of action.

Saturday's loss was the fifth consecutive sustained by The Rock, who saw their season records drop to 1-5 overall and 0-3 against conference opponents.

Bright spots in the losing effort were the performances of junior center Jazmyne Frost and senior post player Emilee Vitez (pictured).

Frost recorded her team-best third “double-double” of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds to lead The Rock attack. Vitez had nine points and seven rebounds in her first start of the season. Junior guard Alexas Brown handed out six assists for SRU.

Hannah Heeter had a 16-point, 10-rebound “double-double” for Clarion, while Ann Deibert added 14 points and six rebounds and Mariah Gador chipped in 10 points.

The closest The Rock came to erasing their early deficit was with 13 minutes left in the first half, when they closed the deficit to three points, 14-11.

Clarion went on a 10-3 run in the next three minutes, though, to push the margin to double digits at 24-14 and then answered a 5-0 Rock run with a string of eight unanswered points to take a 32-19 lead with 4:30 left in the opening stanza.

The hosts held their largest lead of the game, a 26-point, 74-48, advantage with 2:45 left to play in the game.

Clarion made 56% (18-32) of its field-goal attempts in the opening half, while The Rock shot 37% (11-30).

Final statistics showed Clarion hitting on 48% (28-58) of its action shots, four of 10 shots from 3-point range and 79% (15-19) of its free throws. The Golden Eagles also had less turnovers (23-17) but fewer rebounds (42-36) than SRU.

The Rock finished the game with a 31% (19-61) efficiency on their field-goal attempts, made 19% (4-21) of their long-range shots and sank 61% (11-18) of their free throws.

SRU is now idle until Dec. 18, when it will host West Chester University in a PSAC “crossover” game in Morrow Field House. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
