Cheyney Game Notes
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team will open a three-game homestand Tuesday and Wednesday when it welcomes West Chester and Cheyney for Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover games. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m. each night.

The Records: Slippery Rock brings a 1-5 record into the game after winning the season opener at home over Urbana, 89-87, before dropping the next five road games.
West Chester enters the game with a 4-2 overall record and a 1-2 PSAC mark. The Golden Rams are coming off a 72-57 win over Mansfield Dec. 8. The Mountaineers are the only common opponent between WCU and SRU so far, with The Rock dropping a 78-65 decision to Mansfield.
Cheyney enters its game Tuesday at Edinboro with an 0-6 overall record and an 0-3 mark in the PSAC. The Wolves are coming off their highest scoring performance of the year in a 74-68 loss to Lincoln Dec. 9. Prior to that, the highest point total in a game was 41 for Cheyney.
Scouting The Rock: Slippery Rock is looking to snap a five-game losing streak and remain unbeaten at home this season. The Rock is averaging 64.2 points per game and allowing 79.3 points per game.
Slippery Rock has two players averaging double digit scoring efforts, led by
D'Asia Chambers' per game averages of 11.7 points and 5.2 rebounds.
Alexas Brown is averaging 11 points per game and has a team-high 30 assists and 18 steals.
Erinne Cunningham has added 9.4 points per game and
Jazmyne Frost is scoring 8.7 points per game and pulling down a team-high 8.7 rebounds per game. She leads the team with three double-doubles.
Danielle Garroutte caps the top scorers at 7.2 points per game and is shooting a team-best (30 or more attempts) 44.4 percent from the field.
The Rock is shooting 34.7 percent from the field, 24.0 percent from beyond the 3-point line and 58.1 percent from the free throw line. Opponents are shooting 43.9 percent from the field, 31.9 percent from long range and 74.4 percent from the charity stripe.
Scouting the Golden Rams: West Chester has averaged 71.3 points per game and is allowing 69.8 points per game. The Golden Rams are shooting 39.8 percent from the field, 33.6 percent from long range and 72.1 percent from the free throw line. They hold opponents to 41.0 percent from the field, 40.4 percent from 3-point land and 62.7 percent from the free throw line.
West Chester has three players averaging double figures in scoring, led by Alex Lennon with per game averages of 13.7 points and 7.8 rebounds. She also has 24 blocks on the year. Ambreelinne Ortman adds 10.7 points and 5.2 rebounds per game and Dallas Ely adds 10.5 points per game. Meghan Kerrigan leads the team with 20 assists Jasmen Clark has 13 assists to cap the top efforts for the projected starters.
Scouting the Wolves: Cheyney is averaging just 43.0 points per game while allowing 75.3 points to opponents. The Wolves are shooting 28.2 percent from the field, 19.6 percent from beyond the 3-point line and 65.1 percent at the free throw line. Opponents are hitting 40.9 percent from the field, 31.3 percent from long range and 64.7 percent from the charity stripe.
Tamara Russell leads the way with per game averages of 10.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Christina Jordan adds 6.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game and Kyra Hines-Allen adds 6.0 points per game to cap the top scorers. No player on the team has started more than five games this season.
Head Coaches: Tanya Longo is in her third season as the head coach at Slippery Rock. Longo has taken on a rebuilding project with the program and has posted a record of 10-48 in her tenure at SRU. Longo came to Slippery Rock after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at Division I Southern Illinois.
Deirdre Kane is in her 26th season as the head coach at West Chester, where she has posted a career record of 417-291. She has led the Golden Rams to winning seasons 18 times and has won the PSAC Eastern Division five times, most recently in 2009.
Marilyn Stephens is in her fifth season as the head coach at Cheyney after taking over the program before the 2008-09 season, a year in which she led the team to the conference playoffs. Stephens is the all-time leading scorer and rebounder at Temple University, finishing her playing career in 1984 after scoring 2,194 points and grabbing 1,519 rebounds.
Series: Slippery Rock and West Chester have played 18 times in the series dating back to the 1969-70 season with the Golden Rams owning a 12-6 edge all-time.
Cheyney and Slippery Rock have met 21 times in the series with The Rock owning a slim 11-10 edge thanks to an 86-51 win last year.

Box Score) West Chester handed Slippery Rock a 79-68 loss last season at Hollinger Fieldhouse in West Chester.
The Rams put four players in double figures and shot 45.1 percent for the game to earn the win. Allison Hostetter led the way with 19 points. Slippery Rock also placed four players in double figures, led by a game-high 21-point effort from
Danielle Smith.
Last Meeting with Cheyney: (
Box Score) Slippery Rock broke the 80-point mark for the only time last season with an 86-51 win over Cheyney at Morrow Field House.
The Rock shot 50.8 percent from the field and made 10 3-pointers on the way to the win.
Erinne Cunningham led the way with 19 points, while
Sherita Stanley added a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds and three other players scored in double figures. Cheyney was led by a 20-point showing from Nadirah Brown.
Next Up: Slippery Rock will take a short break for the holidays and return to action Dec. 30 when Lourdes College visits Morrow Field House for a 1 p.m. tip.
