SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team will face No. 24 Edinboro University in the opening round of the 2012 NCAA Division II Soccer Tournament at 2 p.m. Friday at California University (Pa.).

Tickets: The NCAA mandates a $10 charge for adults and a $5 charge for students and children. Children under the age of two will be admitted free. All tickets must be purchased on game day at the site.
Regional Play: California earned the top seed in the region and the right to host. West Chester claimed the No. 2 seed, followed by Gannon at No. 3, Edinboro at No. 4, Slippery Rock at No. 5 and West Virginia Wesleyan at No. 6.
The winner of Friday's SRU-Edinboro game will play California Sunday in the second round, while the winner of the Gannon-Wesleyan game will meet West Chester Sunday in the second round.
PSAC Playoff Recap: Slippery Rock was dominant in its run through the PSAC playoffs last week, winning three games in four days and outscoring opponents by an 8-1 margin. The seventh-seeded Rock went on the road and upset No. 2 seed West Chester in the opening round, 2-1, before trouncing No. 6 seed East Stroudsburg 3-0 in the semifinals and blanking No. 1 seed California 3-0 in the championship game. Edinboro won its opening round game 2-1 over Kutztown before being eliminated by California in the semifinals with a 2-1 loss.
NCAA Tourney History: Slippery Rock is making its eighth appearance in the NCAA Tournament and is returning for the third consecutive year. The Rock has reached at least the second round in each of the two previous years and is coming off a trip to the Round of 16 last season. Edinboro is playing in the tournament for just the second time and has never won a tournament game.
Scouting The Rock: Slippery Rock enters the game with a 13-5-2 overall record and is riding a four-game winning streak in which it is outscoring opponents 11-1.
Slippery Rock is outscoring opponents 43-17 and outshooting the opposition 268-187.
Lucy Hannon, who was named the PSAC Tournament MVP, leads the team with 10 goals and nine assists.
Shelby Ward has added nine goals and three assists, while
Cailin Conner has five goals and two assists and
Lauren Impey has four goals and three assists.
Stephanie Buckenheimer and
Nicole Krueger each have three goals to cap the top scorers.
Dana O'Neill has started every game in goal for SRU and is 15-5-2 with nine shutouts, including a shutout in the PSAC title game. She has allowed 17 goals for a 0.83 goals against average and has made 71 saves for a .807 save percentage.
Scouting the Fighting Scots: Edinboro is 13-4-2 and has only lost two games in its last 12, both 2-1 to California. The Fighting Scots are 8-2-2 over their last 12 games.
Edinboro is outscoring opponents 40-17 and outshooting the opposition 325-233. Liz Debo leads the team with 14 goals and four assists, while Karisa Fernandez has added 10 goals and three assists. Jansen Hartmann has five goals and five assists and Allyson Overly has two goals. No other player has more than one goal, with seven players scoring once. Jenna Madison has one goal and a team-high five assists.
Meghan Kelly has started every game but one and is 12-4-2 with six shutouts. She has allowed 17 goals for a 0.91 goals against average and has made 94 saves for a .847 save percentage.
Head Coaches: Noreen Herlihy is in her 18th season at the helm of the Slippery Rock program. She has led the team to 17 consecutive winning seasons with 10 or more wins and owns a career record of 224-102-26. The 17 consecutive winning seasons rank eighth all-time in Division II history. Herlihy is a 1992 graduate of Mercyhurst College with a bachelor's degree in sports medicine. She also owns a master's degree in sports administration from Slippery Rock.
Edinboro continues to play without head coach Gary Kagiavas following an automobile accident toward the end of the regular season. Kagiavas has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home. He is the only head coach in Edinboro women's soccer history, overseeing the team's first 311 matches over the past 16 years. Assistant coach Jamie Sallie has been appointed acting head coach while Kagiavas recovers from his injuries. A standout as a player at Edinboro, Sallie owns the Scots' all-time goals record with 37 scored during her time in red and white. She has been an assistant under Kagiavas for eight seasons.
Series: Slippery Rock has dominated the series and owns a 15-3-6 overall advantage all-time. The last Edinboro win in the series came in 2009.

The Rock thought they had scored the game-winner as time expired, but it was ruled to have crossed the goal line after time had expired, sending the game to overtime. SRU had another change in the overtime session, but
Lucy Hannon's shot was saved by a diving Meghan Kelly.
Edinboro finished the game with advantages of 16-7 in total shots, 8-4 in shots on goal and 3-2 in corner kicks.
Lauren Impey scored for SRU, while Liz Debo scored for Edinboro.
Dana O'Neill made seven saves in goal for The Rock, while Kelly made three saves for the Scots.
