SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team will face California University (Pa.) Sunday in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championship game at noon at the Philipsburg Soccer Complex in California.

Rankings: California is ranked 16th in the latest Division II national rankings compiled by the NSCAA. The Vulcans rank second in the Atlantic Region according to the NCAA selection committee. Slippery Rock was ranked seventh in the region before this week but has since defeated No. 1 West Chester and No. 6 East Stroudsburg.
Playoff Picture: Top seed California defeated No. 8 seed Indiana 1-0 in the opening round and defeated No. 4 seed Edinboro 2-1 in the semifinals Saturday to earn a berth in the title game. No. 7 seed Slippery Rock upset No. 2 seed West Chester, 2-1 in the opening round and upended No. 6 seed East Stroudsburg 3-0 in the semifinals.
Rock in the Playoffs: Slippery Rock is making its 10th trip to the PSAC playoffs and its fourth trip to the conference title game. Slippery Rock is 2-1 all-time in the league title game with wins in 2003 and 2005 and a loss in 2007.
Vulcans in the Playoffs: California is the defending conference champion and is in the final for the third consecutive year. The Vulcans won their first ever title last season with a 2-1 win over Kutztown. The year before, they played to a 0-0 tie with West Chester and fell in a penalty kick shootout.
Scouting The Rock: Slippery Rock enters the game with an overall record of 12-5-2 and is riding a three-game winning streak. The Rock's 12 wins gives them their 17th consecutive winning season with 10 or more victories, the eighth-best streak in Division II history.
Slippery Rock is outscoring opponents 40-17 and outshooting the opposition 250-172.
Lucy Hannon leads the way with eight goals and eight assists, followed by
Shelby Ward with eight goals and three assists.
Cailin Conner has five goals and one assist, while
Lauren Impey has four goals and three assists and
Stephanie Buckenheimer has three goals and four assists to cap the top scorers.
Dana O'Neill is 12-5-2 with eight shutouts in goal. She has allowed 17 goals for a 0.88 goals against average and made 66 saves for a .795 save percentage.
Scouting the Vulcans: California enters the title game with an overall record of 16-3-1 and is riding a five-match winning streak. The Vulcans last loss was Oct. 16 when they fell 3-0 to Gannon.
California is outscoring opponents 48-15 and outshooting the opposition 383-179. Haley Henderson leads the team with 11 goals and two assists, while Erin Hogan has added four goals and a team-high 14 assists. Chelsea Crockett has six goals and four assists, Janelle McCann has seven goals and one assist, Kelsey Russo has four goals and six assists and Bethany Smyda has five goals and three assists to cap the top scorers. First team All-American and reigning PSAC and Regional Athlete of the Year Carley Work was out most of the season with an injury, but has appeared in five games and made a start in the semifinal.
Ashley Magruda has started 19 games in goal and is 15-3-1 with eight shutouts. She has allowed 14 goals for a 0.72 goals against average and has made 72 saves for a .837 save percentage.
Head Coaches: Noreen Herlihy is in her 18th season at the helm of the Slippery Rock program. She has led the team to 17 consecutive winning seasons with 10 or more wins and owns a career record of 223-102-26. The 17 consecutive winning seasons rank eighth all-time in Division II history. Herlihy is a 1992 graduate of Mercyhurst College with a bachelor's degree in sports medicine. She also owns a master's degree in sports administration from Slippery Rock.
Gene Smith is in his first season as the head coach at California after serving as an assistant with the program for the previous two years. He was an integral piece of the coaching staff that saw the team go undefeated in the regular season in 2011. As a member of the staff, he helped oversee a 38-2-6 run during the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
Series: Slippery Rock holds a 17-9-2 advantage in the all-time series, but California has had the upper hand lately. The Vulcans eliminated SRU from the NCAA Playoffs in each of the last two years, including a 2-0 defeat in the Round of 16 last season when Cal was ranked No. 2 in the nation and SRU was ranked No. 23.

Box Score) California took advantage of a foul called near midfield and scored on its only shot of the second overtime to defeat Slippery Rock 2-1 with just 47 seconds to play earlier this season, Sept. 28.
The Rock finished that game with advantages in every category, posting edges of 19-18 in total shots, 8-6 in shots on goal and 8-3 in corner kicks.
Ashley Magruda kept the Vulcans in the game with a series of diving saves, including four in the second overtime session. She finished with seven saves in the game.
Lucy Hannon scored the game's opening goal in the 14th minute and Jordan Gray tied the game for Cal in the 32nd minute. Haley Henderson scored the game-winner in traffic in the 110th minute.
