SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team recorded a 2-0 win over Millersville University Saturday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

Saturday's game served as the annual Coins for Cancer game with donations taken throughout the game for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The game was also the annual senior day game, with seniors Marissa Anderson, Emer Flatley, Kara Mullins, Erin Storck and Shelby Ward honored in a pregame ceremony.

The win improves Slippery Rock to 8-4-1 overall and 5-4-1 in PSAC action and keeps The Rock in playoff position in the PSAC standings. Millersville drops to 3-6-4 overall and 1-6-3 in league games.

Shelby Ward and Lucy Hannon each tallied goals and Hannon and Izabel Scott recorded assists to lead SRU. Dana O'Neill earned the shutout win after making five saves in goal.

Olivia Webber took the loss for Millersville, allowing two goals and recording seven saves.

Slippery Rock finished the game with advantages of 17-8 in total shots, 10-5 in shots on goal and 2-1 in corner kicks.

Ward opened the game's scoring in the 17th minute after taking a pass from Hannon down the right wing and beating the keeper one a solo breakaway.

That tally would be the lone goal of the opening half and Slippery Rock took 1-0 lead into the break after posting a 5-2 advantage in shots and a 1-0 edge in corner kicks.

The Rock added an insurance tally in the 86th minute when Hannon scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season after taking a pass from Scott.

Millersville had two solid scoring chances as time wound down, including a solo breakaway, but O'Neill raced out of the goal to squander both chances and preserve the shutout.

Slippery Rock is back in action Tuesday when it welcomes Mansfield to James Egli field for a 3 p.m. kickoff. That match will mark the final regular season home game of the year as the team will wrap the regular season with road trips to Edinboro, Gannon and Lock Haven.
