Rock women welcome Millersville Saturday

Slippery Rock will host Millersville Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in the annual Coins for Cancer and Senior Day game.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team will host Millersville Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

Special Events: Saturday's game is the annual Coins for Cancer game. Fans are encouraged to bring change or other donations to go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer awareness and research. The game is also the annual senior day game, with Slippery Rock's seniors being honored in a pregame ceremony.

Scouting The Rock: Slippery Rock enters the game with a 7-4-1 overall record and a 4-4-1 mark in PSAC games, good for the eighth and final playoff spot in the standings. The Rock is coming off a heartbreaking 2-1 overtime loss at No. 2 West Chester Tuesday.

Slippery Rock is outscoring opponents 24-13 and outshooting the opposition 165-113. Lucy Hannon leads the way with seven goals and five assists, followed by Shelby Ward with four goals and one assist. Stephanie Buckenheimer, Kara Mullins and Emer Flatley all have two goals, while Lauren Impey adds one goal and three assists and Caitlin Binder adds four assists.

Dana O'Neill is 7-4-1 with five shutouts in goal. She has allowed 13 goals for a 1.04 goals against average and made 37 saves for a .740 save percentage.

Scouting the Marauders: Millersville enters the game with a record of 3-5-4 overall and a 1-5-3 mark in the PSAC. The Marauders have not won a game since Sept. 15 against Mansfield, going 0-3-4 since.

Millersville is being outscored 24-13 and outshot 217-182. Kristin Lepley leads the team with four goals, followed by Chrissy McLaughlin and Megan Kelley with two goals and one assist each. Kelsey Mattola has one goal and two assists and Felicia Cramer has one goal and one assist to cap the top scorers. Emily Purcell, Megan Wilson and Gina Grier each have one goal to cap the goal scorers.

Olivia Webber has started every game in goal and is 3-5-4 with three shutouts. She has allowed 21 goals for a goals against average of 1.81 and has made 73 saves for a save percentage of .777.

Head Coaches: Noreen Herlihy is in her 18th season at the helm of the Slippery Rock program. She has led the team to 16 consecutive winning seasons with 10 or more wins and owns a career record of 218-101-25. The 16 consecutive winning seasons rank eighth all-time in Division II history. Herlihy is a 1992 graduate of Mercyhurst College with a bachelor's degree in sports medicine. She also owns a master's degree in sports administration from Slippery Rock.

Mike O'Brien is in his seventh season as the head coach at Millersville, where he has improved the team since arriving. The Marauders best year under O'Brien came in 2009 when the team won seven games. He is a Shippensburg University graduate.

Series: Slippery Rock owns a 14-3 advantage in the all-time series, including the last six meetings. Millersville's last win came in 2003.

Last Time: (Box Score): Slippery Rock handed Millersville a 2-0 defeat in Millersville Sept. 7, 2011. Kara Mullins scored one goal and handed out one assist, Lucy Hannon scored a goal and Shelby Ward had one assist to lead SRU.

The Rock finished with advantages of 13-6 in total shots, 4-2 in shots on goal and 5-4 in corner kicks. Lisa Rodgers earned the shutout in goal for SRU with two saves. Laura Reed took the loss for MU.
