Rock drops 86-67 decision at Bloomsburg

Slippery Rock dropped its fifth consecutive game Friday night, falling 86-67 in PSAC action at Bloomsburg.

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team dropped its fifth consecutive game Friday night, falling 86-67 on the road at Bloomsburg University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover game.

The Rock drops to 1-6 overall and remains winless at 0-5 in league play. Bloomsburg improves to 7-2 overall and 3-2 in PSAC action.

Slippery Rock placed four players in double figures Friday night, but got just one point off the bench. Jasmine Cooper led the way with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Erinne Cunningham added 17 points.

Danielle Smith scored 14 points and pulled down nine rebounds, while Sherita Stanley added 11 points and a team high four assists and Paris Thomas added six points. The lone bench point came from Danielle Garroutte.

The Rock finished the game shooting 35.6 percent from the field (21-of-59), 21.4 percent from the 3-point line (6-of-28) and 70.4 percent from the free throw line (19-of-27).

Bloomsburg placed five players in double figures, led by a game high 21 points from Kelsey Gallagher. Kayla Oxenrider added 17 points, while Dana Wieller chipped in 13 and Alyssa Flanagan and Lauren Ellis each scored 10 points.

The Huskies connected on 31-of-63 shots from the floor for a 49.2 percent efficiency, including 3-of-12 from the 3-point arc (25 percent). The hosts were nearly perfect at the charity stripe, shooting 91.3 percent after making 21-of-23 attempts.

Friday's game was all Bloomsburg from the start as the hosts jumped out to an 11-0 lead just under five minutes into the game. After a Rock free throw, the hosts went on another 7-0 run to open up an 18-1 lead with 12:37 left in the first half.

Slippery Rock cut the deficit to 10 points at 33-23 with 2:15 to play before Bloomsburg pushed the lead up to 40-24 at the halftime break.

The Rock battled back through the second half and got to within 10 points again, 65-55, with 7:10 to play, but another 7-0 run from the Huskies put the game out of reach.

Bloomsburg finished the game with advantages of 44-20 in points in the paint and 15-1 in bench points.

Slippery Rock will get little time to rest before traveling to Mansfield for a PSAC crossover Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. Both SRU and Mansfield are winless in PSAC action so far this season.
