OXFORD, Ohio -- The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team dropped a 72-32 decision on the road at NCAA Division I Miami of Ohio in an exhibition game Saturday evening.
Slippery Rock, playing in its first exhibition of the season, kept things close in the first half and trailed just 34-23 at the break.
Miami turned up the defensive pressure in the second half and allowed just nine Rock points while scoring 38 of its own to pull away for the 72-32 margin.
Slippery Rock was 11-of-52 (21.2%) from the field, including 2-of-17 from behind the 3-point line. Miami finished the game shooting 26-of-64 (40.6%), including 5-of-13 from behind the arc. The hosts made 15 of 24 free throw attempts, while The Rock sank 8-of-9 from the charity stripe.
Jasmine Cooper led all scorers in the game with 14 points on four field goals and a perfect 5-of-5 effort at the free throw line.
Danielle Smith added four points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Danielle Garroutte each added four points and
Paris Thomas handed out a team-high five assists.
Courtney Osborn matched Cooper with 14 points to lead Miami. Kelsey Simon added 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds off the bench.
The Redhawks used a 15-0 run to open the second half to break the game open before cruising to the win.
Slippery Rock will open the 2011-12 regular season on the road at the University of Findlay Friday, Nov. 11. Tip is set for 6 p.m.
