SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team earned its fifth consecutive shutout Saturday with a 3-0 victory over Clarion in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match at Jim Egli Field.
Saturday's win improved Slippery Rock to 8-3-2 overall and 6-2-2 in PSAC action, while Clarion slips to 3-8-2 overall and 1-7-2 in league play.
The Rock has now reeled off five consecutive shutouts and has not allowed a goal since there was 1:02 left at Kutztown Sept. 24. The scoreless stretch continued Saturday and is now at 451:02 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal. SRU has allowed just one goal in the last 638:02 of action.
Slippery Rock was in control from the outset of Saturday's game and posted advantages of 22-4 in total shots, 9-3 in shots on goal and 8-2 in corner kicks.
Lucy Hannon scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season, which was also her fourth-consecutive game-winning goal, to opening the scoring for The Rock.
Kara Mullins was credited with the assist after she swung a pass into the box for Hannon, who beat one defender and found the left side of the net at the 13:22 mark.
Mullins added her own goal in the 18th minute when she headed home a free kick off the foot of
Emer Flatley to make it 2-0.
The two goal lead stood until shortly after the halftime break when
Erin Storck scored her first collegiate goal off a rebounded shot from
Alyssa Barrett at the 54:02 mark. Barrett fired a hard shot from 20 yards out that was saved, but Storck was there to head in the rebound to put the game out of reach.
Dana O'Neill earned the win in goal for Slippery Rock, improving her season record to 4-0 with three shutouts. She made three saves in the game. Her counterpart, Laura Saussol, was credited with the loss after allowing three goals and recording five saves.
The Rock will look to keep its current winning streak alive when they travel to Indiana (Pa.) Oct. 11 for a 4 p.m. match between two of the top teams in the PSAC.
