Rock blanks #19 Edinboro, 1-0

Shelby Ward found Lucy Hannon for her third consecutive game-winning goal and The Rock handed No. 19 Edinboro a 1-0 defeat in PSAC action Wednesday night.

EDINBORO, Pa. Lucy Hannon scored her team leading seventh goal of the season to lead the Slippery Rock University women's soccer team to a 1-0 shutout at No. 19 Edinboro in a crucial Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference game Wednesday night.

Wednesday's win was the fourth consecutive shutout for Slippery Rock, which improved to 7-3-2 overall and 5-2-2 in PSAC play. Edinboro drops to 9-3 overall and 6-3 in the PSAC.

"That was a fantastic all-around performance from the squad," said head coach Noreen Herlihy following the game. "We got a total team effort from everyone tonight and this is a massive result for us."

Hannon, who scored game-winning goals against Bloomsburg and East Stroudsburg last weekend, tallied her third consecutive game-winner late in the first half off an assist from Shelby Ward, her team-leading seventh helper of the year.

The Rock managed to hold the Edinboro offense to just two shots on goal in the game, including none in the second half.

Slippery Rock finished the match with advantages of 9-8 in total shots and 7-2 in shots on goal, while Edinboro posted a 6-0 edge in corner kicks.

Hannon's game-winner came at the 41:55 mark of the first half to send the game to the break with SRU leading 1-0.

Edinboro owned a 5-3 edge in total shots and a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks after the first half, while Slippery Rock posted a 3-2 edge in shots on target.

Lisa Rodgers earned her fifth shutout of the season in goal for SRU, making two saves in the win. Meghan Kelly was credited with the loss after allowing one goal and recording six saves.

Hannon finished the game with three shots on goal, while Ward was credited with two shots on target.

Slippery Rock will return home to host Clarion in a PSAC match Saturday at Jim Egli Field. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
