Box Score

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team reeled off its ninth consecutive shutout with a 1-0 victory over Gannon Saturday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

With the win, Slippery Rock improves to 12-3-2 overall and 9-2-2 in PSAC action. The Rock also moves to 29 points and into a tie for second-place in the PSAC standings, one point behind Edinboro. A win in the season finale next weekend would guarantee SRU a first round home game in the playoffs.

Gannon, which entered Saturday as the first team in the standings that had yet to secure a playoff spot, dropped to 8-4-4 overall and 5-4-4 in PSAC action.

The Golden Knights finished the game with advantages of 12-9 in total shots, 5-2 in shots on goal and 6-4 in corner kicks.

Lisa Rodgers earned the shutout in goal for Slippery Rock after making five saves, lowering her season goals against average to just 0.41.

Maggie Brinkman took the loss in goal for Gannon, allowing one goal and recording one save.

Saturday's shutout pushed the current stretch of time without an opponent scoring a goal to 811:02 for The Rock, which has allowed just one goal in the last 998 minutes played.

Kara Mullins scored her team leading ninth goal of the season to account for the game-winner, her fourth winning tally of the year. Nicole Krueger was credited with the assist on the goal.

The lone goal of the game came at the 15:20 mark when Krueger's pass slipped through the hands of Gannon's Brinkman and found Mullins alone in front of an empty net.

Both teams had chances throughout the remainder of the half, but neither team would convert to send it to halftime with SRU leading 1-0.

Gannon managed seven total shots in the second half, including two on goal, but Rodgers was up to the task to preserve the shutout.

Slippery Rock has just one game left in the regular season and will have a week to prepare for that match, as Lock Haven is set to visit next Saturday, Oct. 29. That game will be the annual “Coins for Cancer” game to raise money for cancer research. It will also be the annual Senior Day game, where Alyssa Barrett and Lisa Rodgers will be honored before the game.
