SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team handed East Stroudsburg at 4-0 defeat in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon at Jim Egli Field.
The Rock (6-3-2, 4-2-2 PSAC) got two goals each from
Kara Mullins and
Lucy Hannon and was in control throughout the match, holding the Warriors (4-6-1, 1-5-1 PSAC) to just five shots, including only one shot in the first half.
Slippery Rock finished the game with advantages of 14-5 in total shots, 12-4 in shots on goal and 4-2 in corner kicks.
Lisa Rodgers earned her second consecutive shutout of the weekend, stopping four shots for SRU. Her counterpart, Nicki Keiser, was credited with eight saves in the loss.
Hannon opened the game's scoring in the 12th minute when she dribbled through the defense and scored into the upper corner of the net from 20 yards out.
Mullins put Slippery Rock up 2-0 at the 24:38 mark when she slid in front of the goal and chipped in a crossing pass from
Erin Storck.
The Rock maintained that margin into halftime before Mullins made it 3-0 in the 58th minute. She scored across the goal from the right side of the box into the left corner off an assist from
Shelby Ward.
Ward swung another pass into the box in the 70th minute that Hannon put home for her second goal of the game and the final tally of the match.
Saturday's win capped a 2-0 PSAC weekend for The Rock, which also handed Bloomsburg a 2-0 defeat Friday afternoon at Egli Field.
Slippery Rock will travel to Edinboro Wednesday, Oct. 5, for a 6 p.m. PSAC match.
