Hindley's overtime PK leads Rock past Shippensburg, 3-2

Alison Hindley scored two penalty kicks, inlcuding one in overtime, to lead The Rock to a 3-2 win over Shippensburg Saturday at Egli Field.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Alison Hindley scored her second penalty kick of the game in the 99th minute
to lead the Slippery Rock University women's soccer team to a 3-2 overtime win over Shippensburg Saturday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match at Egli Field.

Hindley was fouled by Shippensburg keeper Shelbie Rackley inside the box at the 98:54 mark and was awarded a penalty kick. She beat Rackley into the lower left corner for the game-winner.

The win improves Slippery Rock to 5-3-0 overall and 3-3-0 in PSAC play. Shippensburg drops to 5-2-1 overall and 3-2-0 in conference play.

Hindley opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a penalty kick over starting keeper Megan Delio after a Shippensburg defender was called for a handball inside the box.

The Lady Raiders tied the game at 1-1 in the 27th minute when Katie Leverentz scored off an errant shot from Katie Klinger.

The Rock jumped back out in front in the 35th minute when Ashley Paganie scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season, bending a shot from 25 yards out into the upper left corner of the net off a feed from Danielle Turner.

Shippensburg battled back to tie the game at 2-2 to close out the first half when Meghan Mahon headed in a pass from Ashley Vellucci that deflected off Rock keeper Alli Bird and into the net.

The Rock posted an edge in shots after every period, including a 5-1 edge in overtime, to finish with advantages of 20-11 in total shots and 9-5 in shots in goal. Each team was awarded three corner kicks.

Bird earned the win in goal after allowing two goals and recording three saves. Delio made three saves in the first half before giving way to Rackley, who made three saves and allowed the game-winning PK in the losing effort.

The Rock is back in action with their third consecutive home game Wednesday, Sept. 29, when Edinboro travels to Egli Field for a 4 p.m. conference match.
