SRU started the game strong with a two-run first inning highlighted by a
Jenna Geibel double.
Atkinson picked up a triple to start the top of the fourth inning and would score on a
Stephanie Collenette single to push the lead to 3-0 early.
Shauna Walker allowed only one run going in to the bottom of the fifth after Millersville score two unearned runs off of errors with two outs in the inning.
Shaylee Ianno would finish out the game with the Marauders scoring a third run in the inning to take the lead 4-3.
Millersville was up 5-3 going in to the top of the seventh. The Rock had runners on second and third with two outs after
Sheree Horvath reached on an error when Atkinson nailed a two-run double to tie the game up at five.
Whitney Warmus picked up right where Atkinson left off and connected on a double of her own to score Atkinson and give the go-ahead 6-5 score to SRU.
Ianno struck out two in the bottom of the seventh to pick up the win, giving her a 4-2 record this season.
In the second game, The Rock would score two runs on two hits to start the game just like the first with a 2-0 lead. Millersville's Casey Coker would finish a productive bottom of the first with a home run after two-runs had already been scored to give the home team the 3-2 lead.
Lindsey Grace would be pulled after the first inning being replaced by
Amy Erickson. Grace allowed four hits and three earned runs with no strikeouts in one inning.
The Rock started to find some offense in the top of the fifth when
Kendra Kutz picked up a double and
Kirsten Brant reached base on an error. Kutz would score when
Jessica Kortz was walked, but Geibel would hit in to a double-play to end the inning with a 4-3 deficit.
Millersville scored two runs before Ianno came in the game for SRU. Jamie Motsko doubled off of Ianno to pick up an RBI and give the Marauders the 7-3 lead.
With two quick outs in the top of the seventh, Kortz was walked and then advanced to second on a wild pitch by Lisa Rich. Both Geibel and Horvath were also walked when Atkinson hit her second top of the seventh double to bring in three runs. Those three runs would not be enough as Warmus hit in to a fielders choice to end the game, 7-6.
Atkinson finished the day 5-for-7 with two doubles and five RBI's.
The Rock will return to action on Sunday facing off against the Fighting Scots of Edinboro in a PSAC-Western Division doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the SRU Softball Complex.
