LOCK HAVEN, PA.--Chere' Marshall scores nine points and five rebounds while the Slippery Rock University women's basketball team drops its third-straight game with a 60-48 loss at Lock Haven on Wednesday night. The Rock falls for 5-19 overall and 2-9 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division.
Bethany Caudill also recorded eight points and
Emilee Vitez joined Marshall with five rebounds.
Amanda Mikatavage and
Tynesha Lee both had three blocks. The Rock did not convert a three-pointer in the loss (0-11).
Lock Haven (6-16, 1-10 PSAC-W) captured its first conference win since defeating The Rock in the 2007-08 season. The win also snapped an 11 game losing streak for the Lady Eagles. Casi Donelan and Kristen Kudrick both scored 10 points and Kacie Hershey led all players with seven rebounds.
Lock Haven held a lead until
Grace Palucis tied the score at 10 with 11:47 left in the first half. The Rock went on a 6-2 run in a three minute span with the teams scoring back and forth with Lock Haven up by nine with 1:30 left in the half.
The Rock scored the final five points of the half, trailing 27-23.
The game was tied twice early in the second half with Mikatavage and
Julie Molloy answering on two different occasions. With 18 minutes left in the game, and the score tied at 29, Lock Haven took control.
The game stayed close until half way through the final half, when the home team went on a 13-2 run in a three minute span to take a 52-39 lead.
The final eight points of the game scored by Lock Haven were on converted foul shots. Donelan went 4-4 on her foul shot through that time, and helped give the Lady Eagles the 60-48 win.
The Rock shot 33% (17-51) from the floor and 70% (14-20) from the foul line. SRU did not hold a lead in any statistical category except blocks (8-2).
Lock Haven shot 36.4% (20-55) from the floor and 83.3% (15-18) from the foul line. They out rebounded SRU 39-32 and dished out five more assists (13-8).
The Rock returns to action for a two-game home stand on Saturday when they host Clarion. Tip off for that game is set for 1 pm. Next Wednesday will be senior night, when SRU hosts California.
