KENT, Ohio – Cameron Daugherty finished in second place and recorded an NCAA provisional qualifying mark by clearing 4.90 meters in the pole vault competition while 11 other Slippery Rock University men's indoor track and field athletes produced Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying marks on Saturday at the Kent State Golden Flash Gala.
Joining Daugherty in the pole vault competition on Saturday was
Dave Caldwell, who placed 13th and cleared 4.30m to pass the PSAC qualification standard.
Dan Hedglin and
Ethan Geisler were two of three Rock athletes to run PSAC qualifying times in the 60-meter hurdles. Hedglin came in ninth place with a time of 8.46 while Geisler and
Michael Dicocco registered times of 8.72 and 8.97 respectively in their preliminary races.
The 800-meter run saw two SRU runners place in the top-15 as
Jason Jamieson placed sixth with a time of 1:55.81 and
Kevin Jewel finished 12th by crossing the finish line in 1:57.24. Both times met the PSAC qualifying standard.
Another pair of PSAC qualifiers was
Dan Henry, who recorded a time of 4:29.50 in the one-mile run to finish in sixth place, and
Derick Fiedler who placed 13th in the high jump with a clearance of 1.90m.
Geisler,
Trevor Foley,
Mason McLaughlin and Hedglin all produced PSAC qualifying times in the 400-meter dash. Geisler finished with a time of 51.12 to place 21st while Foley placed two spots behind him in 51.24. McLaughlin, who would also meet the PSAC standard in the 200-meter dash, had a time of 51.34 and finished 25th while Hedglin rounded out the quartet in 30th place with a time of 51.73.
Slippery Rock will be back in competition January 29-30 at the Lake Erie Invite.
