SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University volleyball team held leads in all three sets, but was unable to end its losing streak Tuesday night at Morrow Field House as Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division leader Clarion defeated The Rock 3-0 (19-25, 15-25, 22-25).
The loss, which is Slippery Rock's fifth in a row, drops SRU's record to 8-20 overall and 5-13 in the PSAC. The win improves Clarion's record to 26-3 overall and 17-1 in the PSAC.
Junior middle hitter
Lisa Bakaitis led The Rock with six blocks (one solo, five assisted). Junior outside hitter
Alee Kromer recorded 14 digs while senior setter's
Kim Wilson and
Anna Bixler registered 12 and nine assists respectively.
On offense, junior outside hitter
Kaylee Smith recorded a team-high seven kills while junior outside hitter
Kristin Slavoski (five kills), sophomore opposite
Sarah Cadwallader (four kills) and freshman outside hitter
Lauren Rojek (three kills) rounded out The Rock attack. In addition to their kills, Smith and Cadwallader each added two assisted blocks as well.
The first set of the night featured 10 ties and four lead changes as Slippery Rock and Clarion traded points for much of the set. With the score tied at 16-16, the Golden Eagles took the lead for good by going on a 4-0 run to take a 20-16 lead on their way to the 25-19 win.
Slippery Rock jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the second set, but quickly found itself in a 10-10 game. Clarion then ended the set, and moved ahead two sets to none, with a 15-5 spurt for the 25-15 victory.
The Green and White didn't quit on their final home match of the season and regrouped to take at 14-10 lead in the matches third set, forcing a Clarion timeout. SRU proceeded to come out of the break and take the set's next point for a five-point lead (15-10), which was The Rock's largest lead of the night. However, the Golden Eagles had another comeback in them and scored eight of the next 11 points to tie the score at 18-18. SRU took its final lead of the night at 19-18 before Clarion finished the set on a 7-3 run for the 25-22 match-clinching victory.

Slippery Rock will aim to end its season with a win when it travels to Gannon on Saturday for a 7 p.m. match.
