BLOOMSBURG, Pa. --
Danielle Turner scored two goals to lead the Slippery Rock University women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Bloomsburg in the quarterfinal round of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference playoffs Tuesday at Sports Stadium.
The Rock (13-3-3) pushed its current unbeaten streak to 12 consecutive games and avenged a 2-1 regular season loss to the Huskies (12-4-3) by scoring two unanswered goals for a comeback win.
The current 12 game unbeaten streak matches the school record, set during the 2004 season.
Slippery Rock, the fifth seed in the playoffs, will now travel to top-seeded West Chester Friday for the conference semifinals. The winner of that match will meet the winner of No. 2 seed California (Pa.) and No. 3 seed Kutztown in the championship match Saturday at West Chester.
SRU is the only semifinalist in the PSAC not nationally ranked in this week's Division II rankings. West Chester is ranked fourth, with California ranked 11th and Kutztown ranked 21st.
Tuesday's match between SRU and Bloomsburg was almost dead even statistically, with both team registering nine shots and the Huskies holding a 6-5 edge in shots on goal and a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Slippery Rock registered the first two shots of the game, but the Huskies struck first when Kristine Preski found the lower left corner of the net off a broken play after a corner kick in the 20th minute.
The Rock responded when Turner tied the game in the 29th minute, converting a corner kick from
Rachel Knapp through traffic in front of the net.
Turner notched the game-winner in the 68th minute with a left-footed strike from the left wing that found the bottom right corner of the net.
Dana O'Neill improved her season record to 8-2-1 after recording four saves. Bloomsburg threatened in the second half, and it looked as if the Huskies would score on a corner kick, but
Toni DiRenzo made a defensive save on the goal line.
Frances Nicoletti took the loss in goal for Bloomsburg, allowing two goals and recording three saves.
Game time for the SRU-West Chester semifinal match Friday has been tentatively set for 11 a.m. Check back to www.RockAthletics.com Wednesday for a complete preview, including ticket and live coverage information.
