Rock drops match 3-1 to Kutztown

Slippery Rock (7-12, 5-6 PSAC-West) was led by sophomore Lexi Arnold and senior Anna Bixler. Both players achieved double-doubles as Arnold finished the match with 11 kills and 11 digs while Bixler registered 20 assists and 10 digs.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University volleyball team lost to Kutztown 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 17-25, 14-25) Saturday at Morrow Field House in The Rock's final Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover match of the season.

Slippery Rock (7-12, 5-6 PSAC-West) was led by sophomore Lexi Arnold and senior Anna Bixler. Both players achieved double-doubles as Arnold finished the match with 11 kills and 11 digs while Bixler registered 20 assists and 10 digs.

Sophomore Sarah Cadwallader made 10 kills while junior Kristin Slavoski and junior Lisa Bakaitis added seven kills each in the loss. Cadwallader and Bakaitis paced the SRU defense with two assisted blocks each.

Senior Kim Wilson once again shared SRU's setting responsibilities with Bixler and totaled 18 assists and one solo block. Sophomore Hannah McShea made a season-high 19 digs.

Tied 13-13 in the first set, Kutztown (15-7, 5-7 PSAC-West) made an 8-2 run to take a 21-15 lead. The Golden Bears took the set 25-23 despite a late rally attempt that saw SRU score five consecutive points.

The Rock once again found itself in a tight set during the second frame. Though unlike the first set, SRU would pull out a close victory. At 18-18, Slippery Rock went on a 5-1 run to gain a 23-19 lead. The Green and White then withstood a Kutztown comeback attempt to claim a match-tying 25-23 victory in the second set.

However, SRU was unable to hold off the Golden Bears the rest of match, losing the third and fourth sets 25-27, 25-14.

Slippery Rock will resume PSAC-West play on Tuesday at Clarion. The first serve is slated for 7 p.m.
