Rock falls 3-0 at Clarion

CLARION, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University volleyball team was defeated by Clarion Tuesday night 3-0 (16-25, 24-26, 12-25). With the loss, The Rock's record falls to 7-13 overall and 5-7 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference contests.

Sophomore outside hitter Hannah McShea led all Rock hitters with a season-high eight kills to go with her 15 digs. Sophomore opposite Sarah Cadwallader also contributed seven kills while junior outside hitter Alee Kromer posted a team-high 18 digs. Kromer has now registered at least 15 digs in 12 of The Rock's 20 matches this season.

The win improves Clarion's record to 19-2 overall and 11-1 in the PSAC.

Slippery Rock will be back in action at home on Friday to take on Gannon at 7 p.m. The Rock will be paying tribute to breast cancer survivors against Gannon as part of the team's fifth annual “Dig for the Cure” match to benefit breast cancer awareness.

SRU will also be selling pink “Dig for the Cure” T-shirts for $10 each. Payment can be made in cash or checks payable to SRUAA/Volleyball. Area businesses will also donate items to be raffled during the match and free-will donations will be accepted. Fans will also be able to participate in a volleyball serving contest.

All proceeds will go directly to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Cure, which distributes monies to local chapters. The closest Komen Foundation chapter to the SRU campus is located in Pittsburgh.

The first four SRU Dig for the Cure events raised more than $16,000 for the Komen Foundation.
