SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.—Despite three players scoring in double-figures, the Slippery Rock University women's basketball team dropped a 65-51 contest to Indiana (Pa.) on Saturday night at Morrow Field House.
The Rock (4-15 overall, 1-5 PSAC-West) was led by
Julie Molloy with 15 points in 35 minutes. Chere' Marshall and
Bethany Caudill scored 12 and 11 points respectively.
Nikki Presto recorded seven assists and
Tynesha Lee tied a career high in rebounds with eight.
Indiana (11-7 overall, 4-2 PSAC-West) was led by freshman Sarah Pastorek recording a career high in points and rebounds with 25 and 12 respectively. The double-double was the first of her career. Eryn Withers recorded nine rebounds and Hillary Shope scored 17 points.
The Crimson Hawks took a 30-24 half time lead with each team shooting over 40% (SRU 45% and IUP 42.9%). SRU did not record a steal in the first half, Indiana had seven.
Indiana was up by as many as 12 points with 12 minutes left, when Caudill sank a three-pointer after a milled foul shot by Pastorek to make it 45-37. The Rock brought it closer when Presto nailed a three-pointer to bring the game to 47-44 with 7:36 left in the game.
The lead was by two, 52-50 with four minutes left for the Crimson Hawks when Pastorek scored the final five points of the game to seal the 57-50 win. The Crimson Hawks did not trail in the second half.
The Rock shot 36.7% for the game (18-49) and 40% (8-20) from three point range. Both teams had 15 assists in the game.
The Crimson Hawks show 44% (22-50) and 68% (17-25) from the foul line. IUP out rebounded SRU 45-23, but did not record a block in the game.
Slippery Rock returns to action on Wednesday at California (Pa.). The game is the last game in the first half of PSAC-West play. The game is set to start at 6 pm.
