EDINBORO, Pa. – The No. 25-ranked Slippery Rock University women's soccer team battled Edinboro to a 1-1 tie after double overtime in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action Tuesday evening.
The Rock struck first when
Alison Hindley scored her second goal of the season in the eighth minute off an assist from
Lynsey McKey.
Slippery Rock carried that 1-0 lead into halftime, despite being outshot 4-2 in total shots and 2-1 in shots on goal in the half.
Edinboro notched the equalizer in the 64th minute when Karisa Fernandez scored her fourth goal of the season off a corner kick.
Neither team could find the back of the net for the remainder of regulation or in either of the two 10-minute overtime periods.
Both goalkeepers were forced to make a save during the extra time, with Rock keeper
Sarah Lacy saving the potential game-winner in the first overtime and Edinboro keeper Kate Stukbauer spoiling Slippery Rock's best effort in the second overtime.
Edinboro finished the game with advantages of 15-10 in total shots and 7-3 in corner kicks. Shots on goal were even at 6-6.
With the tie, The Rock moves to 2-1-1 overall and evens out at 1-1-1 in PSAC-West competition. Edinboro moves to 2-1-2 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play.
Slippery Rock will host Clarion this Saturday, Sept. 12, in a PSAC-West matchup at Egli Field. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
