SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team scored a 1-0 victory over Clarion in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division contest Saturday afternoon at Egli Field.
The lone goal of the game came with just 1:11 remaining in regulation when
Juliana Howell headed home a crossing pass from
Shelby Ward that found the net inside the near post.
Both teams came out of the gates slowly, combining for just three shots on goal in the first half with The Rock holding a 2-1 edge.
The second half saw the pace quicken and the action increase, with Slippery Rock tallying eight shots on goal and Clarion three. The Rock finished with advantages of 15-7 in total shots and 10-4 in shots on goal. Corner kicks were even at one for each team.
Sarah Lacey earned the win in goal for Slippery Rock, playing the full 90 minutes and registering four saves for her second shutout of the season.
Jenna Kulik took the loss for Clarion after recording nine saves.
With the win, Slippery Rock improves to 3-1-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the PSAC-West. Clarion falls to 3-4-0 overall and 0-4-0 in conference play.
The Rock will host Indiana (Pa.) this Wednesday, Sept. 16, in a PSAC-West matchup under the lights at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium. Game time is set for 7 p.m. Live match statistics will be available through The Rock athletic Web site at www.RockAthletics.com.
