DETROIT – Sophomore Kaylee Smith was named to the All-Tournament team as the Slippery Rock University volleyball team finished the second day of the Warrior Invite hosted by Wayne State 1-1 after a 3-1 win over West Liberty State and a 3-0 loss to Wayne State Saturday.
In the first match against West Liberty State, The Rock (1-3) took the first set, 25-22, the Hilltoppers took set two, 25-21, until The Rock swept the last two sets, 25-18, 25-13.
Smith led the team with 18 kills and five aces. Smith also added eight digs. Freshman Hannah McShea recorded 16 kills on 40 attempts. Sophomore Kristin Slavoski had seven kills, nine assists, eight digs, and two aces.
Junior Kim Wilson led the team with 18 assists. Junior Anna Bixler led the team with 18 digs and recorded 17 assists. Senior Stacey Domer added 15 digs and four aces.
The Rock led in kills, 51-39, and topped West Liberty in aces, 12-2, and assists, 46-38. Michelle Pierzchala led the Hilltoppers with 17 kills and Katie Helm led in assists with 35.
In the second match, Smith recorded a team high 10 kills as the only Rock player in double digits kills. Domer led the team with 13 kills and two aces while McShea added 10 digs. Bixler and Wilson both recorded 13 assists.
Wayne State topped The Rock in kills 47-32 and assists 43-28. The Warriors never relinquished their lead, winning the three sets 25-17, 25-21 and 25-7. Sarha Gosslin and Lauren Mallast recorded double-digit kills and Cyndey Biessel led the Warriors with 39 assists.
The Rock returns to action next weekend at the Shippensburg tournament.
