Freshman Bethany Caudill recorded a team-high 11 points as the Slippery Rock University women’s basketball team recorded a 56-48 loss to Urbana on Monday night. The Rock is now 1-4 on the season.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Freshman Bethany Caudill recorded a team-high 11 points as the Slippery Rock University women's basketball team recorded a 56-48 loss to Urbana on Monday night. Senior Nikki Presto recorded her third double digit scoring effort of the season with 10 points and three steals.
 
Junior Grace Palucis recorded nine points and freshman Emilee Vitez lead the team with eight rebounds. Senior Chere' Marshall lead the team with five or SRU's 11 assists. 

Urbana, now 1-5 overall, was lead by Unique Lane with 13 points and nine rebounds while Jalyssa Jackson added 12 points and a game-high six rebounds. The Blue Knights captured their first win of the season after not committing a foul in the first half. 

The Rock, now 1-4 overall, started the game on a 12-3 run through the first six minutes of the game. Presto and Marshall made consecutive layups early to spike the nine point lead.
Each team went scoreless for two minutes when Tynesha Lee connected in the paint to extend SRU's lead to 11. 

With 4:39 left in the first half, Jackson connected off of a Presto missed layup to cut the lead to seven, when Julie Molloy answered back with a basket in the paint to push the lead back to nine at 25-16. 

Caudill made a layup with three seconds left in the first half to give The Rock its 10 point, 29-19, halftime lead. 

Within a three minute span to start the second half, the Blue Knights cut the lead to four and scored six unanswered points until Palucis completed a three point play with 17 minutes left in the game and a 32-25 lead. 

Urbana would capitalize on three turnovers by The Rock in a two minute span to take their first lead of the game after Jackson made a jumper for the 33-32 lead. 

With under 10 minutes left in the game, Jackson blocked Alex Beatty passing to a streaking Andrea Vogel to take a five point, 39-34 lead. Amanda Mikatavage would bring it to five with two points in the paint with 7:57 left in the game and a 39-37 Knights lead. 

With both teams battling in the final four minutes, Urbana held on to its lead when Beatty made 1-2 foul shots to bring the score to 47-46 for the visitors with 3:53 left in the game. 

The Blue Knights would pull away after a three-pointer by Chelsea Quinian with 1:46 left in the game giving Urbana the 50-46 lead that would not be relinquished. 

The Rock shot 37.5% (21-56) from the floor, 6.3% (1-16) from three-point range and 50% (5-10) from the free-throw line. 

Urbana shot 39.7% (23-58) from the floor, 22.2% (4-18) from three-point range and 60% (6-10) from the free-throw line. 

The Rock was outscored 37-19 in the second half and scored 10 fast break points. Each team recorded 19 points off the bench. 

The Rock returns to action on Thursday against Penn State-Beaver at Morrow Field House. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
