Sales, Presto pace Rock winning effort vs. Edinboro

Sasha Sales (20 points, 12 rebounds) and Nikki Presto (17 points, 12 assists) led The Rock (6-9, 1-1) to an 82-64 win Saturday afternoon over visiting Edinboro

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Senior post player Sasha Sales and junior guard Nikki Presto each recorded a "double-double" Saturday afternoon to lead The Rock to an 82-64 win over visiting Edinboro in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action in Morrow Field House.

Sales (pictured above) scored a team-high 20 points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to chalk up her second "double-double" in the last three games. Presto chipped in 17 points, handed out a career-high 12 assists and grabbed eight rebounds.

Junior guard Julie Molloy added 14 points for SRU, which snapped a three-game losing streak and improved its season record to 6-9 overall, 1-1 in division play. Senior guard Chere' Marshall contributed nine points and five assists.

The loss dropped Edinboro's season record to 10-5 overall, 1-1 in PSAC-West competition.

The Rock scored the first nine points of the game before Edinboro got on the scoreboard at the 14-minute mark. The Fighting Scots then scored 15 of the next 22 points to tie the score at 16-16 with 8:20 left in the first half.

The score was tied five more times and the lead changed hands five times in the final eight minutes before a jumper by junior post player Jess Schake just prior to the buzzer gave The Rock a 31-30 edge heading into the intermission.

The Rock never trailed in the final 20 minutes of action and held a double-digit lead through the final 12 minutes. The largest lead of the game was a 21-point, 76-55, advantage with 3:15 left.

SRU finished the game with a 56.1% (32 of 57) efficiency from the field, nailed 54.5% (6 of 11) from 3-point range, and canned 85.7% (12 of 14) of its free throws. The Rock also held a 33-29 advantage in rebounding and had the lower total in a 20-19 tunrover comparison.

Edinboro shot 43.1% (25 of 58) from the field, made 3 of 12 (25%) from beyond the arc and hit 61.1% (11 of 18) from the charity stripe.

The Rock returns to action Wednesday at Gannon University in Erie. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.

The Green and White then return home for a 1 p.m. game next Saturday vs. Clarion.
