SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Senior forward
Courtney Hoover converted a pass from sophomore forward
Ashley Paganie into the only goal of the game Saturday afternoon as The Rock nipped Bloomsburg, 1-0, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference "crossover" action at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.
The goal was the first of the season for Hoover (pictured above); Paganie picked up her third assist of the season.
The win improved the Green and White's overall record to 7-1-1. Bloomsburg saw its season record drop to 7-3.
Saturday's game featured two of the top ranked teams in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division II Atlantic Regional poll. SRU was ranked fourth in the poll, while Bloomsburg was the No. 7 team.
The Rock outshot the Huskies by a 13-8 margin, but SRU senior goalie
Sarah Lacy was called upon to make only one save. Bloomsburg netminder Frances Nicoletti, meanwhile, turned aside five of six Rock shots on goal.
SRU returns to action Wednesday, when it will travel to California (Pa.) for a 2 p.m. PSAC-Western Division game.
The Rock then visits East Stroudsburg for a PSAC "crossover" game Oct. 5 before entertaining division rival Clarion in a 7 p.m. game Oct. 7 at Thompson Stadium.
