ERIE, Pa. -- Sophomore forward
Ashley Paganie scored an unassisted goal from 25 yards out on the right side in the 104th minute of action Saturday afternoon to give the 15th-ranked Rock a 3-2, double-overtime win over hosting Gannon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action.
The goal was Paganie's second of the season.
With the win, The Rock -- who overcame a 21-7 Gannon advantage in shots taken -- took over first place in the PSAC-West. The Green and White are now 4-0-1 overall, 30-1 in division play.
Gannon suffered its first loss of the season after winning its first three contests and is also 3-1 in division play.
Freshman
Shelby Layman had a hand in each of The Rock's first two goals. She assisted on a goal by sophomore
Rachel Knapp in the 41st minute of action, which gave The Rock a 1-0 lead.
Three minutes later, though, Gannon scored a goal to tie the count at 1-1 heading into intermission.
Layman then put The Rock in front by a 2-1 score with an 78th-minute goal off an assist from freshman
Chelsea Sneed. That Rock lead was also shortlived, as Gannon scored a goal in the 84th minute to knot the count at 2-2.
Senior goalie
Sarah Lacy recorded seven saves for The Rock.
SRU returns to action on Wednesday, when it will travel to Mercyhurst for a 4 p.m. PSAC-West game.
The Rock then returns home to host Mansfield in a 2 p.m game next Saturday, Sept. 20.
