Final statistics
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Sophomore forward
Alison Hindley buried four shots in the back of the net Sunday afternoon to propel The Rock to a season-opening 5-0 win over visiting Seton Hill in non-conference action at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.
Hindley has now scored 12 goals in the last seven regular-season games, a streak that extends back to the end of the 2007 season. She scored a total of nine goals a year ago.
Hindley became the fourth player in Rock women's soccer history to score four goals in a game. She joins All-America performer Sonya Maher (1996 vs. Washington & Jefferson) and Allison Bourke (1996 vs. LaRoche) in second place on the single-game scoring list behind Cara Yannotti, who scored five times vs. Dominican (N.Y.) in 2001.
Sophomore forward
Juliana Howell scored SRU's final goal Sunday. Senior forward
Shelly Regner and freshman forward
Alyssa Barrett each handed out two assists and senior forward
Courtney Hoover assisted on Howell's goal.
The Rock outshot Seton Hill by a 29-6 margin, which made it relatively easy for Green and White goalies
Lauren McManus and
Sarah Lacy to record a combined shutout. McManus, a junior, had one save in 58 minutes of action before Lacy turned aside one shot on goal in the final 32 minutes.
Hindley scored the first of her goals in the 31st minute off an assist from Regner. That same duo connected for SRU's second goal in the 49th minute.
Barrett set up Hindley's third and fourth goals just over a minute apart in the 56th and 57th minutes of action before Hoover assisted on Howell's goal in the 77th minute to conclude the scoring.
The Rock will look to ring up its second win of the season Wednesday when it travels to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division rival Clarion for a 7 p.m. game.
The Green and White return home for a 2 p.m. PSAC-West game vs. Edinboro. The match will be the second game of a fall sports tripleheader at Thompson Stadium.
The women's soccer match will be sandwiched between a noon field hockey game vs. Indiana (Pa.) and a 4 p.m. men's soccer match vs. Ohio Valley (W. Va.).
