WALNUT, Calif. -- Rock All-America sprinter
Brad Mueller earned a berth in the NCAA Division II 100-meter dash finals by recording the seventh fastest time in Thursday's preliminary heats.
Mueller, the reigning 60-meter dash indoor national champion, ran a 10.54 time Thursday. That was 0.16 seconds off the pace set by St. Augustine's Dennis Boone.
Mueller's preliminary time and resulting berth in the national finals virtually assured him of a second U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-America honor.
A former high school state sprint champion, Mueller was one of two Rock male student-athletes who competed in opening-day events of the three-day national championship competition.
Pat Reagan placed 13th in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 30:38.20.
Reagan will be back in national championship competition Friday as he vies for a berth in the 5,000-meter run finals.
If Reagan is successful in his quest for a 5,000m finals berth, he would be one of three Rock male student-athletes participating on the final day of the national championships.
Mueller and
Nate Hardic (javelin thorw) are already assured of seeing action Saturday.
