SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Nate Hardic tossed the javelin 211 feet, 10 inches Saturday to win the event, earn an automatic berth in the NCAA Division II national championships and lead The Rock to the team title in the PSAC West Challenge at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.
Joining Hardic in the limelight were three Rock student-athletes who recorded provisional qualifying standards for the NCAA championships: Brad Mueller in the 100-meter dash (10.56), Tim Tray in the pole vault (16-1.25) and Jeff Weiss in the 1500m run.
All four of those men won their event in Saturday's competition.
Also claiming first-place finishes for the Green and White were Adam Jones in both the shot put (15.5m) and hammer throw (49.65m) and Nate Shadeck in the 400m hurdles (54.14).
As a team, The Rock amassed 282 points to easily outdistance runner-up Lock Haven, which had 144 points. Clarion finished third with 108, followed by Indiana (Pa.) with 91, California (Pa.) with 75.5, Mansfield with 37.5 and Edinboro with 26.
