LAS VEGAS, Calif. -- Adam Jones was a double winner Saturday to lead The Rock effort in the UNLV Collegiate Classic.
Jones won the shot put with a toss of 47 feet, 1 inch and claimed the hammer throw with a 164-7 toss. He also placed third in the discus with a toss of 130-9.
His wins were two of six recorded by Rock male student-athletes in the one-day competition. Terrace Draper won the triple jump with a leap of 45-4.5,
Eric Novick reigned in the 100-meter hurdles race with a time of 15.77,
Nate Shadeck ruled the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.25 and
Chris Warning won the discus with a throw of 146-10.
Brian Dell (44-4), Warning (43-10.75) and
Joel Peters (43-5.25) were second, third and fourth, respectively, behind Jones in the shot put to give SRU a clean sweep of the top four spots.
Peters (149-8) and Dell (144-1) placed third and fourth, respectively, in the hammer throw event won by Jones.
Other Rock highlights included a 2-3-4 finish by The Rock's
Nate Hardic (172-0),
Nick Alouise (168-10) and
Brady Wert (160-3) in the javelin throw and a third-place finish by
Mike Rose in the 110m hurdles event won by Novick. Rose ran a 16.46 time.
The Rock remains on the west coast through Saturday, FEb. 15, when it will compete in the Aztec Classic hosted by San Diego State University.
