Rock quintet earns berths in national championships

Lacey Cochran, Jennifer Hansen, Whitney Hendershot, Brad Mueller and Pat Reagan will represent the Green and White in Mankato, Minn.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Rock head coach John Papa announced Tuesday that five Rock student-athletes have earned berths in the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held March 14-15 at Minnesota State University's Mankato campus.

Carrying the Green and White banner into national competition will be Lacey Cochran in the women's 400-meter dash, Jennifer Hansen in the women's pole vault, Whitney Hendershot in the women's high jump, Brad Mueller in the men's 60-meter dash and Pat Reagan in the men's 5,000-meter run.

All five student-athletes set new SRU school records this winter.

Hansen and Hendershot are the highest ranked of The Rock participants. Both of them have the second-best qualifying mark in their respective event.

Hansen, who placed 11th in last year's indoor national championship and was the national runner-up in outdoor competition, set a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference record this winter with a best-ever vault of 13 feet, 1.5 inches.

Hendershot's best leap of the season was 5 feet, 9.25 inches.

Mueller is seeded sixth in his event with a 6.79 time, while Reagan is ranked 13th with a 14:35.50 time and Cochran is ranked 16th with a 57.59 time.
