SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Brad Mueller sprinted to a school-record time of 6.36 seconds Friday night in the 55-meter dash to headline a list of seven blue-ribbon efforts recorded by Rock male student-athletes in the SRU Open competition in Morrow Field House.

Mueller's time eclipsed the mark of 6.88 set one week earlier by Jeren Debardeladen in the Akron (Ohio) Open and earned the former high school state sprint champion a provisional berth in the NCAA Division II national championship meet in March.

Three other Rock runners also recorded winning efforts Friday. Chris Geddis won the 800m run with a time of 2:00.73, Eric Novick reigned in the 55m hurdles with a time fo 8.25 and the 4x400 relay team ran a 3:36.16 time.

The relay team consisted of Nate Shadeck, Gabriel Fortunato, Jason Jamieson and Phil Rector.

Rock male student-athletes also claimed first-place finishes in three field events: Steve Brenner won the high jump with a leap of 6-0.75, Tim Tray ruled the pole vault with a 15-5.75 height and Adam Jones won the 35-pound weight throw with a toss of 54-7.25.

The Rock is idle until Feb. 23, when they will compete in the Kent (Ohio) Open.
