KENT, Ohio -- Brad Mueller sprinted to a school-record and winning time of 6.80 seconds Saturday in the 60-meter dash to headline The Rock's effort in the Kent State Tune-Up Meet.
In the process, The Rock graduate student and former high school sprint champion earned an automatic berth in the NCAA Division II indoor national competition.
Jaren DeBardeladen placed eighth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7>07.
Jeff Weiss finished second in the 3,000-meter run with an 8:23.94 time to lead a pack of three Rock runners who placed in the top eight. Following Weiss across the finish line were teammates
Pat Reagan (third place, 8:28.99) and
Matt Bluman (eighth place, 8:43.23).
Other Rock highlights included:
Terrece Draper placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 43-10.75;
Tim Tray tied for fourth place in the pole vault with a leap of 15-3;
The 4x400 relay team of
James Sims, Philip Rector,
Gabriel Fortunato and
Nate Shadeck placed sixth with a time of 3;19.10.
The Rock now turns its attention to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships, which will be held March 1-2 in East Stroudsburg.
