Shippensburg, Pa.-Senior forward, KellyAnn Staudinger scored a game-high 14-points in 21-minutes of action in Saturday's 44-62 loss to Shippensburg.
Sophomore guard, Nikki Presto added nine-points in 26-minutes of action and was The Rock's second leading scorer.She was followed by Sophomore-guard, Julie Molloy who added seven-points in 17-minutes of action.
Saturday's loss marked the eighth straight for The Rock. The Green and White found themselves trying to come back from a large deficit to start the game once again as
The Red Raiders jumped out to an early 12-0 lead on SRU.
This marked the second straight game The Rock found themselves down by double digits to start the game as rival Indiana U. of Pa. jumped out to an 11-0 lead in Wednesday's loss at Morrow Field House.
The Rock did not score their first points until the 12:11 mark when freshman guard, Robin Vlah was fouled on a jumper. Vlah converted the three-point play to make the score 12-3.
The Rock would only score four more points in the next seven minutes as Shippensburg would go on a 12-4 run making the score 24-7 at the 4:49 mark.
Julie Molloy would end the run with at three-pointer to make the score 24-10 with 4:40 left in the first half. Saturday was the first game back for Molloy as she did not dress against IUP due to injury.
The Rock would only score seven more points as Shippensburg would take a 32-17 lead into the half.
The Green and White would come out of halftime and go on an 11-6 run as KellyAnn Staudinger would account for 8 of The Rock's 11-points as SRU would cut The Red Raiders lead to 13, 39-26 at the 14:06 mark.
That would be as close as The Rock would get as Shippensburg would hold a commanding lead the rest of the way to make the final score 62-44.
Turnovers would continue to plague The Rock as The Green and White committed 20 for the second straight game.
The loss moves The Rock to 1-9 in the PSAC West and 7-18 overall. Shippensburg moves to 6-5 in the PSAC West and 18-8 overall.
The Rock only shot 29.5% (18-61) from the floor for the game. 25.0% (7-28) in the first half and 33.3% (11-33) in the second half.
From three-point range SRU only shot 10% (1-10) for the game. 16.7% (1-6) in the first half and 0.0% (0-4) in the second half.
Shippensburg shot 41.3% (19-46) from the floor for the game. Ship was 6-18 from beyond the arc for 33.3% for the game.
The Rock was able to control the glass as they out rebounded Shippensburg by a 42-35 margin.
The Rock travels to California Pa. for division game Wednesday, February 27 before closing out its 2007-08 schedule with a March 1 home game vs. Clarion.
March 1 will be Senior Day as The Rock will honor their four seniors: #KellyAnn Staudinger#, #Nijha McNeely#, #Dana Stewart# and #Kara Spagnola# in their last game wearing the Green and White. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
