EDINBORO, Pa. -- The Rock came within 90 seconds of throwing a monkey wrench into Edinboro's quest for a playoff berth, but had to settle instead for a "moral victory."

Edinboro scored the final four points of the game Wednesday night to escape with a 58-54 win in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action in McComb Fieldhouse.

The loss was the sixth straight for The Rock, who saw their overall record drop to 7-16 and their PSAC-West mark fall to 1-7.

SRU is now idle for a week before hosting PSAC-West leader Indiana U. of Pa. in a 6 p.m. "White Out IUP" event Feb. 20 in Morrow Field House.

Sophomore post player Haley Gaidosh scored a team-high 12 points and snared eight rebounds for SRU, while sophomore guard Nikki Presto celebrated her return to action with 10 points and eight rebounds in a substitute role. Senior post player KellyAnn Staudinger chipped in nine points and junior guard Amanda Nero handed out six assists.

The Rock shot a very respectable 52.4% (22 of 42) from the field in the game, hit 62.5% (10 of 16) free throw opportunities and won the rebounding battle by a 38-25 margin.

Working against the Green and White were an 0-for-6 effort from 3-point range and 27 turnovers, which Edinboro converted into 31 points.

Edinboro managed a lukewarm 37.1% (23 of 62) effort from the field, shot 23.8% (5 of 21) from beyond the arc and made 77.8% (7 of 9) free throws. The Fighting Scots committed only 12 turnovers, which SRU converted into nine points.

The teams were tied at 10-10 early in the game before Edinboro put together a 16-4 run to take a 26-14 lead with four minutes left before intermission. SRU trimmed the margin to nine, 29-20, at halftime.

Edinboro held The Rock at bay for the first 11 minutes of action in the second half and had a 10-point, 48-38. advantage with nine minutes left.

SRU roared back with a 14-3 run, though, to take a 52-51 lead with 3:45 left to play.

That set the stage for the final 90 minutes of action.
