Molloy scores team-high 17 points in Rock's 85-72 loss to LeMoyne

Julie Molloy was one of four Rock players who finished Sunday's game with a double-digit scoring total

KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Junior wing player Julie Molloy scored 17 points Sunday afternoon to lead The Rock effort in an 85-72 loss to LeMoyne (N.Y.) College in second-day action of the Golden Bear Classic hosted by Kutztown University.

The loss was the second suffered by the Green and White in as many days and sends them into Thursday's home opener vs. Tiffin (7 p.m.) in search of its first win of the season.

LeMoyne is 2-0 this season after scoring back-to-back wins over Pitt-Johnstown and SRU.

Molloy (pictured above), who also handed out a team-high five assists in the game, was one of four Rock players who scored 10 or more points in Sunday's game. Seniors Amanda Nero and Sasha Sales each chipped in 12 points, while junior post player Jess Schake added 11 points.

Molloy was later selected as The Rock's representative on the All-Classic team.

As was the case in the season-opening loss Saturday to Kutztown, The Rock battled its foe on even terms throughout the first part of the first half, only to see the rival close out the stanza with a scoring advantage that proved to be too much for the Green and White to overcome.

SRU and LeMoyne were deadlocked at 24-24 with just less than five minutes left in the opening half before the New Yorkers outscored The Rock by a 7-4 margin heading into intermission.

An 8-0 LeMoyne run to open the second half put The Rock down by double digits. SRU never got closer than nine points the rest of the game.

One day after having an ice-cold shooting effort vs. Kutztown, The Rock hit 55.6% (25 of 45) of its action shots Sunday. The Green and White made 63.6% (14 of 22) of their shots in the second half.

The Rock nailed 5 of 12 (41.7%) of their shots from 3-point range and hit 18 of 25 (72%) of their free throws.

LeMoyne held a 32-26 rebounding advantage; no Rock player had more than three caroms to her credit.

SRU committed 23 turnovers, compared to 17 for LeMoyne.
