Kutztown hands Rock 66-51 season-opening setback

KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Junior wing player Julie Molloy scored a team-high 10 points and junior guard Nikki Presto and junior post player Jess Schake each added nine in The Rock's 66-51 season-opening loss to hosting Kutztown in first-day action of the KU tournament.

Presto and senior post player Sasha Sales tied for team-high honors with 10 rebounds each, while Molloy and Schake each had nine rebounds.

The Rock outrebounded Kutztown by a 54-46 margin but shot an frigid 26.4% (19 of 72) from the field, an icy 16.7% (2 of 12) from 3-point range and a lukewarm 55% (11 of 20) from the foul line.

The Rock scored the first basket of the game and was tied with the Golden Bears at 16-16 with 4:30 left in the first half before the hosts went on a 14-5 run to take a 30-21 lead into intermission.

SRU never trimmed the margin to less than eight points in the final 20 minutes of action.

The Green and White return to the Keystone Hall hardwood for a 1 p.m. Sunday game vs. LeMoyne College before heading home to prepare for the home opener at 7 p.m. Thursday vs. Tiffin (Ohio).
