SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Sophomore forward Alison Hindley (pictured above) scored off an assist from freshman Alyssa Barrett with two minutes left to play Tuesday night to give The Rock a 2-1 win over visiting Clarion in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.
The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Green and White, who now own an 8-3-1 overall record and a 5-2-1 mark in PSAC-West action. SRU is now in second place in the division.
Clarion saw its overall record drop to 3-8-2 and its PSAC-West mark fall to 0-6-2.
The guests' Rachel Shmitz scored on a breakaway four minutes into the game to put the Golden Eagles on top by a 1-0 score.
That goal remained unanswered until up by a score of 1-0.
SRU left Clarion's goal unanswered for just shy of 80 minutes before Barrett scored her first goal of the season, off an assist from sophomore forward Ashley Paganie, to tie the score at 1-1 in the 84th minute of action.
The assist was Paganie's fifth of the season; she is tied for second in the conference in that category.
Five minutes after the Paganie-to-Barrett goal, Hindley and Barrett teamed up to produce the game-winning tally.
The goal was Hindley's PSAC-best 11th of the season. Barrett picked up her fourth assist of the season.
The Rock outshot Clarion by a 21-6 margin. Senior goalie Sarah Lacy recorded four saves for SRU, while Clarion netminder Jenna Kubik turned away nine Rock shots on goal.
The Green and White return to action at 2 p.m. Saturday, when they travel to Wheeling Jesuit for a non-conference game.
