Adam Jones sets school record in men's 35-pound weight toss

Jones' first-place finish was one of eight claimed by The Rock in the two-day Bison Open hosted by Bucknell University

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Adam Jones set a new school record in the men's 35-pound weight toss Saturday to headine The Rock's effort in the two-day Bison Open hosted by Bucknell University.

Jones tossed the weight 57 feet, 2 inches to win the event and earn a provisional berth in the NCAA Division II indoor national championship meet.

His first-place finish was one of eight claimed by The Rock. SRU captured four women's individual titles, three men's individual titles and won one women's and one men's relay event.

The Rock also claimed four second-place finishes in men's events, three third places in men's competition and one third place in women's competition.

In women's competition, Jennifer Hansen won the pole vault (12-4), Whitney Hendershot won the high jump (5-7), Serena Bond won the triple jump (36-5.5) and Lacey Cochran won the 400-meter dash (58.33).

Cochran also ran the anchor leg of the winning 4x400 relay. She was joined in the relay by Jessica Sackin, Allison Smith and Amanda Seigworth. The foursome ran a time of 4:02.98.

Vera McDaniel placed third in the women's 200m dash with a time of 26.55.

James Sims was a double winner for The Rock men as he won the 400m dash (50.31) and ran the lead leg of the winning 4x400m relay (3:28.72). Sims was joined in the relay by Philip Rector, Gabriel Fortunato and Nate Shadeck.

Fortunato placed second in the 60m dash (7.06), Graham Ruskin was second in the pole vault (15-3), Steve Brenner was second in the high jump and Terrece Draper was second in the triple jump (44-9).

Rector placed third in the 800m run (1:58.62), Tim Tray finished third in the pole vault (14-9) and Mike Rose was third in the heptathlon (4,469 points).
