SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Rock walked away with the team titles in both the women's and men's competitions in Saturday's PSAC West Challenge in Morrow Field House.
The Rock women enjoyed a 189-147 advantage in the final points standings, while the men had a 168-142.5 advantage.
SRU claimed eight individual first-place finishes and won three relays in the one-day competition.
Leading the way for The Rock women were
Lacey Cochran and
Tiffany Tedesco, who each earned an individual blue ribbon and ran a leg of a winning relay.
The Rock men's effort was led by
Chris Geddis and Philip Rector, who each won an individual event and ran a leg of the winning distance relay.
Cochran won the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.03 and ran the anchor leg of the winning 4x400 relay (4:05.73).
Tedesco won the women's 55-meter dash with a time of 7.65 and ran the anchor leg of the winning 4x200 relay (1:49.82).
Rock All-America performer Jennifer Hansen won the women's pole vault with a vault of 12 feet, 3.75 inches to round out The Rock's individual winners.
Joining Cochran on the winning women's 4x400 relay were
Jessica Sackin,
Allison Smith and
Amanda Seigworth.
The winning women's 4x200 relay team consisted of
Vera McDaniel,
Tina Beggs,
Jayme Stanek and Tedesco.
Geddis won the mile run with a time of 4:27.14 and Rector reigned in the 800m run with a time of 2:01.46 before they joined
John Strutt and
Matt Bluman to win the distance relay.
James Sims won the 200m dash with a time of 23.43,
Tim Tray claimed the men's pole vault with a vault of 15-5.75 and
Adam Jones won the shot put with a toss of 49-3.5 to round out the list of first-place finishes by Rock men.
The Rock women and men return to action next weekend, when they will compete in the Bison Open hosted by Bucknell University in Lewisburg.
