Walbright leads Rock to 5th place finish in Longnecker Invitational

Heather Walbright claimed three top-six individual finishes and was a member of four top-six relay teams in the two-day event at Grove City College

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Heather Walbright claimed three top-six individual finishes and was a member of four top-six relay teams to lead The Rock to a fifth-place team finish in the 11th Annual Longnecker Invitational hosted by Grove City College.

Walbright had The Rock's best individual finish when she placed third in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:31.11. She also placed fourth in the 200 freestyle (season-best 2:02.10) and fifth in the 100 freestyle (56.86).

Walbright also swam a leg of the fifth-place 800 freestyle relay (season-best 8:33.09) and the sixth-place 200 freestyle relay (season-best 1:45.99), sixth-place 200 medley relay (2:01.51) and sixth-place 400 medley relay (4:24.89).

Beth Choike joined Walbright on the four top-six relays and also placed sixth in the 100 backstroke (1:05.76) and eighth in the 200 backstroke (2:21.84), while Lauren Hervatin finished fourth in the 500 freestyle (season-best 5:35.74) and swam a leg of the 200 freestyle, 400 freestyle and 800 freestyle relays.

Jessica Student claimed a fifth-place effort in the 100 butterfly (1:04.15) and swam a leg of the 200 medley, 400 medley and 400 freestyle (seventh place, 3:57.24) relays, while Katie Pietkiewicz placed seventh (19:57.96) and Kaitlin Kaulius was eighth (season-best 19:59.96) in the 1650 freestyle and Betsy Wilson was eighth in the one-meter diving competition with 112.35 points.

Raquel Woerner rounded out the 200 freestyle, 400 freestyle and 800 freestyle relay units; Ashley Goodwill swam the second leg of the 200 medley relay; Caitlin Henney swam the second leg of the 400 medley relay and Sarah Sander swam the lead leg of the 400 freestyle relay.

Washington & Jefferson won the team title with 1033 points, followed by Grove City with 718. Hirame with 659, Mount Union 435. and The Rock with 385.

The Rock is idle until January 12, when it will travel to Edinboro to take on the Fighting Scots and Penn State-Behrend.

SRU does not have a home meet this season.
