KellyAnn Staudinger scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds Saturday afternoon to lead The Rock to a 63-53 win over Davis & Elkins (W. Va.) in second-day action of the Clarion Classic.
Amanda Nero added 11 points and four assists, while
Chere' Marshall chipped in 10 points and six rebounds and
Nijha McNeely had 10 points and four rebounds.
Saturday's win evened The Rock's season record at 1-1 as it prepares for Tuesday's 7 p.m. home opener against Fairmont State (W. Va.).
The Rock never trailed in Saturday's game and was only tied with D&E on one occasion, 2-2, with less than a minute expired on the game clock.
SRU held its largest lead of the game -- a 14-point, 34-20 advantage -- at halftime.
Davis & Elkins trimmed the deficit to three points, 36-33, with 12:45 left to play before The Rock went on an 11-4 run in the next two minutes to push the lead back to double digits.
D&E never got closer than six points in the final 11 minutes of action.
The Rock outrebounded D&E by 10, 43-33, and forced its foe into 21 turnovers. SRU had 19 miscues.
